Why we need your help

The Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) has just taken on a new project to find long term accommodation for Orangutans that cannot be released into the wild. Most Orangutans that come into the care of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme quarantine centre are fit and healthy and can be transferred to one of the reintroduction centres. However, this is not always the case and currently there are Orangutans with special needs that deserve a chance to live out their years in better enclosures, given they can live to be 50 years old! An example is an Orangutan; Leuser who suffered 48 air riffle pellets to his body. Over the next year the AOP in conjunction with RAW Wildlife are attempting to raise enough funds to secure land and build enclosures for these Orangutans.
